THE CONCHO PADRE POSTWe will be departing for Italy on Wednesday, January 4, arriving on Thursday, January 5. the group numbers 35 people. Our first stop is Assisi, then on to Florence and Pisa before going to Rome for the remainder of the trip.
Please keep us in your prayers, and I will remember all of you in the Masses I will be privileged to celebrate during this pilgrimage.
Hopefully I will be able to blog along the way, so check back and see what happens.

Well, folks, I just haven’t been keeping up with this blog for several months now, and really can’t promise that it will get much better.
We have a visiting priest in the parish, Monsignor James McGovern, who is speaking on behalf of Food for the Poor. He’s a nice guy, retired Trenton, NJ, priest, now living on the west coast of Florida.
The US bishops’ have their annual meeting this week. The new nuncio arrived in Washington yesterday, and will be on hand to address the group. He is Archbishop Vigano from the Vatican. Lately he has been serving on the governing body of the Vatican City State.
From Tuesday through Friday of this week, I will be attending workshops in the Good Leaders-Good Shepherds program. They will be here in San Angelo, but will take up most of my time. Emergencies only, please, in the parish, folks!

If you cause our economy to crash, you should be prepared to take the blame and consequences.
Whatever happens to us average people should also happen to you so that you might begin to understand whom you are supposedly representing!

I am up in the Dallas/Fort Worth area this weekend for the joyous task of baptizing a little baby girl. I officiated at her parents’ marriage several years ago at Harper’s Ferry, VA., and then batpized their first little girl at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Chuch in Plano, Texas, about 18 months ago. That’s where I will be tomorrow for the baptism of little girl #2. I grew up with their grandmother in Manhasset, New York, and we have remained friends over all these years. It is good to see them all here in Texas for this happy occasion.
Also had the blessing of having lunch with old friends from San Angelo today. They are living here now, and it was great to catch up on all that is going on in their families.

The Funeral Rites for Archbishop Pietro Sambi, Papal Nuncio, will not take place on August 6 at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington as originally announced. His body has already been returned to his beloved Italy.
A Mass of Remembrance is now scheduled for September 14 at the Basilica.
Apparently, the original ceremonies were not logistically possible.

News of the July 27 death of Archbishop Pietro Sambi, Apostolic Nuncio to the United States of America, brings deep sadness for the church in the United States. As the personal representative of our Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI, Archbishop Sambi enjoyed the highest respect and deepest affection of the bishops of the United States and of our Catholic people.
Archbishop Sambi was a friend of the United States in so many ways. He played an indispensable role in the coordination of the visit of Pope Benedict XVI to our country in 2008, and so enabled our entire nation to see the wonderfully warm solicitude of the Holy Father for America.
Archbishop Sambi understood and loved our nation. He travelled throughout the country, often to attend the ordination of bishops, always eager to meet the faithful, and to share with them the affection that the Holy Father has for them and their country. He was open to the media as a conveyor of truth and welcomed journalists as representatives of the American people. He enjoyed everything from a stroll in the park near his residence in Washington to the diplomatic functions he attended as part of his service as the representative of the Holy See to the United States.
Archbishop Sambi possessed both a keen sense of diplomacy cultivated through many years of service in the Vatican diplomatic corps, especially in Israel, and a pastoral sensitivity cultivated through his many years as a faithful and devoted priest. Those who met or listened to Archbishop Sambi understood that at the heart of all he did was this love of the priesthood and of Christ the Good Shepherd.
We thank our Holy Father for sending him to us as we now commend the soul of this good and faithful servant to the Lord whom he served with such steadfast devotion. May Archbishop Pietro Sambi, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

This will be the 62nd day of 100+ degrees here in San Angelo. There is a storm in the Gulf of Mexico that just may come ashore on the Texas coast, maybe tomorrow evening. Please let it come into the state and head our way with some rain!

Our beloved Papal Nuncio to the United States, Archbishop Pietro Sambi, passed from this life Wednesday evening at the Johns Hopkins Medical Center in Baltimore. He was 73.
The Funeral Liturgy for the Nuncio will be celebrated on Saturday, August 6, the Feast of the Transfiguration, at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, DC.
Let us pray for the repose of his soul, and for comfort for his family members.

“Following the release on 13 July of the report by the Irish government commission of enquiry into allegations of abuse of minors by clergy in the diocese of Cloyne (the Cloyne Report), and in particular in the wake of the subsequent reactions, Archbishop Giuseppe Leanza, apostolic nuncio in Ireland, has been recalled to Rome for consultations with the Secretariat of State”.

May God in his goodness send us rain for our fields and ranches, for our rivers, lakes and streams, for our reservoirs. If we pray unceasingly God will surely provide for our basic needs!
